Welcome to Tuesday, everyone! Our second order of business today is Hoot chapter 16. We have fourteen pages to read today. That's slightly less than yesterday. Team leaders, the more we stay on task today, the more time we will have to accomplish our other goals with our teams today. Be sure to write your essential questions in your groups. When your group is finished reading, you are going to have a discussion on chapters eleven through fourteen. I have gone through and read all the questions you and your team mates have written. I also put stars on the questions I think are really great discussion questions. Take some time in your group to have this discussion and get through those chapters.
With any extra time left today, you are going to work on your SEE body paragraphs. You will need two of these by Thursday!

Happy Monday, everyone! As we get started today, I would really like us to reflect on our Jumpstart Journal question today. How can I make this week successful? What can you do personally? What do you need to make sure gets accomplished? What kind of attitude and outlook do you think you need to have to make sure this week is a good one? This is one of our last full weeks of February. How do we make it a good one?
Lastly today, we will take a look at our Hoot book and begin reading Chapter 15. We are almost done with our book, so let's be sure to keep up our enthusiasm. Tomorrow, we will be having another discussion about our chapters read. As we come to the end of our book, start thinking seriously about your projects. How are you going to take a theme or main idea from the book and turn it into a project that effects the outside world? Many of you have some great starts already. Let's start on our project proposals and get ready to do some research! Happy Friday, everyone! We made it through another week!We have our Spelling unit 25 Test today, and we will be grading the homework. I hope you have all studied! Remember, spelling is 15 points a week! Over the period of a quarter, that really adds up quickly! And I will also be checking Spelling unit 24 for extra credit. Did you go the distance? Then, we are going to get started on Hoot chapter 14. Hopefully we get most of this read in class together. We are going to write our essential questions as well. Over the weekend, I'm going to grade your teams on chapters 11-14. Were you working as a team? Were you participating? Did you write your essential questions for each chapter? It's up to you! Were you respectful, responsible, and proud? Have a great weekend, everyone!Happy Short Day Thursday! Today we are going to present our spokesperson activities. Right away at the beginning of class, we are going to organize our teams together, and run through what we are going to present before we present it. Each team will present their new reinvented spokesperson, what type of spokesperson it is, and how it effectively sells your product.
Reminders: |
For the second part of class, we are going to talk about spokespeople. What is a spokesperson? What is their job? How do they accomplish their job? Then, you and your team are going to get a famous spokesperson and you are going to try to reinvent them. What would you do differently? Would you change them? Would it be a celebrity or a cartoon? How else could a company redesign their spokesperson to be effective in selling their product? We will share our ideas with the class. |
Reminders:
Spelling Unit 25 is due Friday
Spelling Unit 24 is extra credit!
All Independent Reading Titles must be solidified by Friday
Happy Tuesday everyone! We made it past Monday!
I hope we are all ready for another day of great work! Today we will be finishing Hoot chapter 11. It was a little longer than anticipated, but most of you have about two pages left. We're going to power through that. Then, we are going to get started on chapter 12. When your group has finished getting through the chapter, we are going to write our essential questions. Our questions are getting better and better. Keep up the good work.

Then, we are going to revisit our brainstorm maps. We are going to talk about how you are going to submit your project idea to me on Thursday. Your group needs to be narrowing down your project, or already working on the details today. Stay focused! Your project is going to start picking up really soon! You need to know where you're going, and what you're doing.
| Lastly, we are going to start talking about our SEE Body paragraphs. We wrote a practice one on Thursday, so we are going to write our own today. You need to have two body paragraphs written by Thursday! We are going to the lab again that day to finish typing out our information. The set up for SEE paragraphs, and our example paragraph are on the document to the left. |
Happy Monday, everyone! I hope we are all ready to start a new week! I can't believe January is already over, and we've already begun February.
I apologize for no Friday post. My webpage wouldn't load. I was having some technical difficulties.

I want to remind you all on this fine Monday what the classroom expectations are for Language Arts. When we come in to class, we are quiet, ready to go, have all our materials, and are following the agenda for the day. There has been an incredible amount of talking during class, and that has got to stop. We need to remember those rules we came up with, and be sure we are abiding by them. So, when we move on today, we are going to get down to business for the week. We are starting Spelling Unit 25 this week. Unit 24 will be extra credit if you choose to do so. This week we are looking at some prefixes (uni-, mono-, duo-, and bi-). Spelling homework is due on Friday. |
Lastly today, we are going to get into Hoot chapter 11. It is so important in your groups that you are being good team leaders, and good team members. We are starting the downhill on our books this week. We should be done reading by the end of next week. Be sure to be writing your essential questions for the week as well. Remember, essential questions are big picture thinking questions. They typically start with "how" and "why." They can not be answered in just one sentence. You only have a few more of these to write! Keep it up!
Let's have a great week, everyone! Let's stay focused and on task!
