Happy Leap Day Monday, everyone! Today we are going to be continuing our Hoot projects in class. Many teams are finished with their research and moving on to phase two of their projects. If you are using a camera, I need to see a script and approve it before you are allowed to film. If this means you need to be using class time to be writing and working, be sure you do that. These projects are going to be due March 11. Be sure you are using your time wisely. Normally on a Monday we have spelling work time. However, tomorrow I will not be here, so I'm giving you time tomorrow to be working on it. I want you to have as much time to work on your projects as possible. So, time will be given tomorrow to complete your spelling work. Your Independent Reading Projects are due March 17! That is 17 regular days away, and 11 school days away! Be sure you are staying on track!

Hello! and Happy Monday, everyone! This is our last full week in February! I can't believe it's almost over. This year is just completely flying by. This week we are looking at Spelling Unit 28. This week's words are all derived from French words. Some of them sound a little funny. We will be focusing a lot on sound. And you're really going to have to study, because some of these words are spelling really crazy! Some of the words this week have "q's" and some of them have "g's," even though they sound the same. Hopefully you're taking the time to study! Then, we are going to start talking about your projects. For almost all the teams, the first step to your project is research. I have the computers checked out all week to begin working on that.
Also, we are going to be giving ourselves a daily grade. I'm going to walk you through the process of how that looks. If you are not finished with your project proposals, your names are on the board. You and your teams need to finish those today, while the rest of the teams get started on their research. Happy Friday, everyone! We finally made it to the end of the week, but this means that we are going to correct our spelling homework and take our spelling test. I hope you have all studied this week, because this week of confusing words is a toughie! Homophones can be confusing, you're really going to have to listen to the sentences and understand the context to know which word it is! Lastly, our project proposals are due today. You are going to get a few minutes today to finish those up, read them over, put them back together, and make sure they are completely finalized before turning them in. We are also going to talk about the evaluation part of the packet as well, and what that looks like. The last part of our day is silent reading. Please make sure you bring your books to class! I hope you all have a nice weekend. Hopefully you will all reflect on our Respect lessons from this week. Next week, we are going to put them into action. Hopefully you will all show us how truly amazing you all are!For the second part of class, we will either be looking at example essays, or writing our independent reading journals, depending on what each class has already accomplished. We will also be writing a respect related jumpstart journal and having a conversation about that. REMINDERS:

Welcome back, everyone! I know yesterday was a different day. I do feel like we took a lot of time to talk about something very important. Respect is one of those concepts that will stick with you everyday of your lives. Respect is learned, and earned! Remember the lessons we talked about with respect, and carry those with you each day. |
Today we are going to finish reading Hoot. You are going to be reading by yourself today. Everyone is about on Chapter 20; some people are done with the book. You are going to be silent reading, and hopefully finishing the book today. The last two chapters of the book are very short. I have full confidence that you will all finish today.
Lastly, we are going to have some work time to finish our project proposals. You need to try to have most of it completed by the end of class. Divide and conquer is a great way to accomplish more than one section. Your project proposals are due on Friday!
| In Common Time this week we are going to be watching the Hoot movie. It will be your job to fill out this worksheet as we go. You will be looking at similarities and differences between the book and the movie. One side is differences, and the other side is similarities. This means you'll have to flip the paper over frequently to make sure you've filled it in completely. The movie is divided into three sections: beginning, middle, end. You'll be looking at why the change was made, and what effect did it have on the movie? And then you'll be looking at the similarities and why you think they felt it was important enough to keep the same. These will be due at the end of the movie. |
Happy President's Day!
Enjoy your extra day off!
don't forget to be reading your independent reading book, and working on your spelling if you need extra time!
We have finally made it to Friday, everyone! And, his leaves only one full week left in February!

Plus, we have no school on MONDAY!!
We're going to be taking our Spelling Unit 26 Test today. We will quickly grade our homework, and we will take our test. We are also going to take our pretest for Spelling Unit 27. Since we have one less day next week, and a special event on Tuesday, you will have less time to complete your homework, we are going to take this right away. You will then have a nice long weekend to be working on your spelling homework.
Hoot today is going to be a little bit different. Your teams are going to read today as far as they can in the book. We are starting the movie next week in Common Time, and you are going to need to finish the book, so the ending isn't ruined for you. If we can possibly get a chapter and a half read, we will be set to go for finishing the book early next week!
Be sure that our teams are on task today. It's going to be really necessary to your success.

But, there are a few things that could take your writing from good to great! Looking at transitions between our paragraphs can help make us better writers. And that's what we are going to do today. I have a list of wonderful transition words, and when we use each of them to help us become rockstar writers. The worksheet is below.

Happy Humpday Wednesday, everyone! We've made it halfway through our week here, already!
Today we are going to be reading Hoot chapter 17. We are so close to the finish, I can smell it. With your teams today, I want you to be reading and writing your questions for the chapter. When you are finished with that, you can hop right into your project proposals. You will have a little more time today to be working on that.
| Then, we are going to be looking at an example essay written by a seventh grade student. We are going to analyze the introductions and conclusions and see if they are well written paragraphs. Then, we are going to look at the body paragraphs and see if they follow the SEE method. You will have some time to be writing your SEE body paragraphs today. Remember, you will need two by tomorrow! We are typing those into our practice essay, and you don't want to be behind! |
Reminders:
Spelling Unit 26 is due Friday!
Keep reading your independent reading books!
