Happy Friday everyone! Today we are going to finish talking about our morals of The Cyclops' Cave, and then continue reading The Keeper of the Winds. Hopefully, as we continue to battle our monsters, the Keeper of the Winds, Aelous, will be a little more generous to us. I can't wait to find out what new adventure lie in our midst. Lastly, today all of our Greek Gods worksheets, anyone missing their Trojan War packet, and our self-created Greek Gods and the myths we are writing are due by the end of class today. The laptops are in my room, and the rest of the period after our reading is work time to finish. If you are done with your myth early, it is your job to find a partner to have read your myth and give you some feedback. What did they do well? What can they improve on? Check their spelling, grammar, and conventions. Help each other out, and make each other the best writers possible. All these things must be turned in by the end of class. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone! Let's hope our warm weather comes back soon!

Happy Short-day Thursday! Today, as we continue on our journey with Ulysses, we are going to sail away from Lotusland and hopefully head to a nicer place. It's been a rough journey so far. We've been attacked by the Ciconians, even after we thought we won, and then we slept for days on the beaches of Lotusland. Will we ever catch a break? (based on our title, I think maybe not) But, we are going to read on, and find out! Then, for the second half of class, we are going to do PARCC practice again. This will be our last practice time before we actually take the PARCC test. We are so well prepared! We can do this! Let's rock this test!
After we are done reading, we are going to talk about the gods. You are going to come up with a commercial about a product that a god would sell. You can choose any of the fifteen gods or goddesses we've learned about, and decide--based on their title, symbol, reputation, etc--what kind of product this god would try to sell the people.
Have fun! Be creative! And be ready to present your commercial by the end of the period!
After our reading today, you will have class time to finish any of the gods worksheets from the stations last week, creating your own god or goddess and writing your myths. If you still have not completed the Trojan War packet, that is also something you could work on. All these worksheets are due FRIDAY, APRIL 29! Be sure to get them turned in. This is a work at your own pace kind of activity. You are going to need to be responsible for you. Don't let anyone distract you from getting your work done. The only person who suffers then, is you! Any students who missed class today because of the play are responsible for making up today's lesson. The play is not an excuse for not completing your work!Good Monday morning to you all! I'm hoping you all had a nice weekend with the spectacular weather we had! I finally got my landscaping planted in the front of my house, and got my seeds for my veggie garden in the ground! I can not wait to watch those little guys grow! Today we have the Lion King performance in the afternoon, and therefore, our classes are short today. But, that doesn't mean they won't be action packed! We are starting The Adventures of Ulysses today in class. I will be reading the Prologue for you, and you will be reading the first chapter Ships and Men. It is very short; I gave myself most of the work.
Welcome to the last Friday of spelling in your seventh grade year! We're going to take our last spelling test of the year today! Good luck to everyone! I hope you studied for this final spelling test!
The other blocks will be doing PARCC practice today. We are going to get started with an example essay and get started planning them out and writing. We've prepped on all the things we need to do to be successful, and now we are going to put those things into action. We can do this! Lastly, we are going to be looking again at the myths we got yesterday, talking about the expectations for this story retelling, and rewriting and practicing our myths together. Myths are going to be told next Tuesday in your small groups! Be ready! Practice over the weekend doing a dramatic retelling of your myth. We will have some silent reading time as well, so please bring your independent reading books! Have a fantastic weekend, everyone. And a sincere, heartfelt thank you to all of you for making my birthday yesterday so special. It was a great day! Thank you so much! The oral tradition is an important part of our lives. It has shaped the stories of today, and influenced so maich of ehat we know about literature. Now, it's our turn to be the story tellers. Each of you is going to get a myth to read. You are going to get to know this myth inside and out. You are going to become the master of this myth. You will know it so well, in fact, that you will be able to dramatically retell this story to the class. You will become an orator. And through your oration, you will tell us your story. How fun will that be?We're going to pick our myth, read our myths and start our myth understanding by rewriting the myth in our own words. Get ready to become a great story teller!!
Then, some classes have not done the monster activity yet. We will look at some mythological monsters. Remember, these monsters have to be from the time period of ancient Greece. They have to be natural! Heros need to fight them for some reason! They can't just exist to exist. What are these heros protecting us from? Make it sensible!
If we finish the monster activity, I have all kinds of myths that I will pass out at random. Read your myth, and be able to deliver us the story in your best orator voice. You are passing on the oral tradition of story telling in the class. Be ready to be a storyteller! After meeting our Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses yesterday, we are going to talk monsters. What are the mythical monsters we are going to run into during this mythology unit? And then, we are going to get creative and start creating our own mythical monsters. Get your creative caps on, folks! It's time to draw and design!
Welcome back to another wonderful week of school. This week is going to be action packed, and very busy. Let's get ready to rumble! We are going to start out with some business. We have our last week of spelling this week! Wooo hooo! I know we are all excited to hear that! Do not forget, unit 36 will be extra credit if you want to earn some last minute extra credit for quarter four. It is the only extra credit opportunity for the quarter!
Then, we are going to do an meet and greet with our Greek Gods. Our unit on mythology is about to start, and we can't talk about mythology unless we know our characters. Today, we will talk about a few differences between oral traditions, but also do a little meet and greet of our Greek Gods. Who are they? What do they like? What are they the God/Goddess of? What is a symbol to represent them? We're going to find out! |
