Don't forget that your Independent Reading Projects for Quarter 2 are due the Thursday after break! Remember, this quarter, your responses need to be typed! They should be neat and organized. One of the two books you read should be non-fiction. The second book you read is a book of your choice. Here are the Tic-Tac-Toe cards if you have misplaced yours. Have a safe and relaxing winter break! See you in 2017!Throughout the quarter, you need to complete a minimum of three activities. You can only do two activities per book (so you should be reading more than one book a quarter...or at least started your second book during the quarter). This first quarter, both of these books can be your choice. Feel free to read whatever you want, and enjoy it! You do not have to complete the book to do these activities. You can complete them as you go...but you should be reading! This is not an excuse to not be reading outside of class! Reading is good! Have fun with this, and challenge yourself to be creative with these activities. First quarter Independent Reading Projects are due October 14After our independent reading project discussion, we have time to work. We can either: a. finish our "Create your own Greek God" assignment b. finish your plot diagram from your myth yesterday Then, if there is time, we are going to talk about some mythological monsters. See the handout below about what monsters we are going to talk about! Then, we are going to jump back to our myth busting. Yesterday, we mapped out the plot diagram for each of our myths. Today, we are going to talk about the moral and the themes of our myths. When you present your myth to your team, you need to give them a clear analysis of this myth. So, describing the plot isn't enough. What are we supposed to learn? What is the take-away from this story? Why is it still told? You need to explain to us all about the moral of your myth.

If you have not finished iReady, you will have time to do so today. We will be going to the library today to learn about some origami techniques. This lesson is all about following directions, but also the significance of these special designs. Have fun, but open your ears! You will also have a significant amount of reading due on Friday, so I want to provide you the opporutnity to be reading. So, the other part of class is going to involve silent reading, and catching up on, or getting ahead of our reading assignment for Friday in our novels.
We will be iReady testing today in Language Arts.
Happy Tuesday, everyone!I apologize for not posting yesterday. I have no one to blame but myself. We are going to dive back into our novel groups today. All the classes should have read to Chapter 12 today. We are going to discuss chapters 11 and 12. We are not going to be in our groups today though. Today you are going to individual assessments of your book. Everyone is going to be the Wordsmith, Identity Contractor, Analyst, and Public Relations person. You will have a lot of work to do today, so make sure you are writing, writing writing, and thinking, thinking, thinking. Hopefully today we will also have time to read in class. I'm hoping we can get a decent portion of our book covered in class today. We are taking a good chunck out of our books this week. BE PREPARED TO READ! It's the only homework you'll have, so make sure you are staying on top of it. This means you will have to do some reading outside of school. Open your books, folks, and get ready! PLEASE BRING EARBUDS OR HEADPHONES FOR TOMORROW'S IREADY TEST!Happy Friday, everyone!Right away at the beginning of class we are going to go through our spelling today. Unit 16 is due today, and we will correct our homework. We will also take the test. Good luck! We're also going to get back to our novel groups. Hopefully today goes much better than it did on Wednesday. Remember that each person has a role to play in the group. Make sure you are on task, and working. Please remember to do your assigned reading over the weekend! Every class period is in a different place, so you really need to write down in your assignment notebook what your reading homework is!
Happy Short Day Thursday, everyone! We will be in the library today during periods 1, 3, and 7. Ms. Paganis has some awesome new books to book talk with us, and then we will be reading!! In the classroom today, we will be reading Chains. We have to find out what is happening to Isabel after she goes to the Lockton's home. The poor girl has had a pretty traumatic experience in her life right now. Then, we are going to do a little Chromebook refresher, including choosing photos, what are alignments, changing margins, bold, italics, and underlining. It's a simple thing, but some of us are struggling with what these basics are. Time for a refresher! |
