Happy Short-day Thursday, everyone! We have library check out today periods 1, 3 and 7. Make sure to bring an independent reading book with you. Your Independent Reading Projects are due tomorrow, but that doesn't mean you have to stop reading. You can use this book you're reading to start on quarter two...or truly just for enjoyment! Read, read, read! We also have our Adventures of Ulysses test review today. I've posted it below. If you want to download it, please feel free, and play with your friends, your family, or just by yourself! Make sure you study, study, study!
Hey guess what! It's mid-week already!Today we are finishing the book. Pause for dramatic effect... That's it, folks. We are done. The Adventure of Ulysses are over. Ulysses has returned home, officially. But he has to regain his kingdom, his crown, his home and his wife. How will he do it? How will he defeat the suitors that have taken over his home and take back his family and throne? Afterward, we are going to discuss the book as a whole, the themes, morals and lessons to draw from it, and wrap up all our conversations before our test review tomorrow. Reminders:

Our activity then mirrors (see what I did there...) Ulysses experience at Calypso's island. What does Ulysses see in the fire, and what would you see in yours? Each portion of the flame in the picture you see here should be filled with a great memory or triumph you've experienced. Each of the logs burning below should be a struggle you've had to overcome to accomplish that task. This fire should be a representation of the struggles and triumphs in your life, just like what Ulysses sees in his own fire on the island. Be neat, have fun, and color this baby! |

Spelling Unit 8 is due Friday!
Independent Reading Projects are due October 14!!
Happy Monday, everyone, and welcome back to another wonderful week of fun and learning!
We are starting out our day today looking at Unit 8 of spelling. Unit 8 is all about words that end in a silent "e" with a suffix on the end. Suffixes are added to a base word to change it's meaning. They can include "-ness," "-able," "-ous," "-ment" etc. What is the rule we can see from adding these suffixes in this unit? Do we keep the "e" or drop the "e" at the end of these words?
Then we will get into our Jumpstart Journal and chapter for today "The Cattle of the Sun." Ulysses and his men were warned outright about these cattle from Teiresias in the "The Land of the Dead." Do not eat them, or you and your men will never see home again. Will Ulysses and his men follow these directions? And if they don't, who will lie about it?
