Welcome to Friday! We made it! Our normal Friday business has to happen today: spelling homework needs to be graded, spelling test needs to be taken! Then, we will have our Victorian Era presenters give their presentation today. Don't forget things we talked about with presenting: 1. speak nice and loudly so everyone can hear 2. enunciate your words so you are clearly understood 3. don't read right off the presentation! You have your note cards to help you through--rely on those 4. stand with confidence! You are the expert on your subtopic--prove it to us!

Today is the day! We are starting to read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Here's how the day will look: First, we have our Jumpstart Journal. Don't forget about that guy...we still are writing! Second, we are going to do our Homonym Quiz. I hope you didn't forget to study. Then, I'm going to explain how we are going to take notes on our presentations throughout this Charles Dickens unit. Get ready to work! After we learn what our jobs are, the Charles Dickens group will present their presentation on his life. Make sure you are listening and paying attention.
Lastly, we will dive into our reading today, and start with our story. Gather round, my lovely children. The story's about to begin... Today will be our second day in the library preparing for our mini Charles Dickens/A Christmas Carol research projects. By now you should have individually gathered some facts, and written them on your index cards. Remember, you need to cite your source, as well as have one fact on each card. Keep them organized! Don't lose them!
REMINDERS:
Please do not forget about your Homonym Quiz on Thursday. Study guide is on yesterday's blog post (December 1). Spelling Unit 16 Due Friday!! Happy Tuesday, everyone! I'm hoping we're back in the swing of things now, after a week off. Today we are going to be going to the library to work with Ms. Paganis on our research projects. You have been given your groups and you know roughly what you are going to be doing. Ms. Paganis will help us with the details today. Learning how to do research is so important. You are going to need to determine what is good facts, and what is not as useful as you go through life. Research papers will be a part of your school from now until you graduate either high school, or college, but more importantly, being able to read and determine what is good and useful information is going to be a lifelong skill that you are going to need to have. With the information age, there is so much swimming out there on the internet; it is up to you to be a critical thinker and determine what of that information is useful
Lastly, this Thursday (December 3) is your Homonyms quiz. Below is a study guide to help you remember the differences between some of these confusing words. Be sure to go over this and study for your quiz: |
