Happy Friday, everyone! We've made it one ore week! This one went by fast! Today, we have our normal Spelling homework to correct, and our spelling test to take. However, we also have to take the MAZE Benchmark 2 today. This is the test where you read a passage, and every 8-10 words you have the choose the word that best completes the sentence. You have three minutes to take this test. Do we remember this? It shouldn't take us too long to get through. After that, I'll be collecting your book titles for the third quarter Independent Reading Project. (I can't believe it's already third quarter). Bring your book to class! We will be silent reading today! For the second part of ELA, we will be continuing to read Hoot. I'd like us simply to finish up whatever chapters we may be in the middle of, so when we start next week, we aren't starting in the middle of a page or paragraph. Once your team has gotten to the beginning of a chapter, and written your essential question for that chapter, we will have a small discussion about this group of chapters from this week. We should be covering chapters 5-7, roughly. We have made sure to write really good, deep thinking questions for these chapters. So, when we have our discussion, they should be in depth, on task, and we shouldn't be breezing through the questions too quickly. I want you to really discuss some of the ideas you've written down. As I walked around this week and peeked at your essential questions, they are looking really great! You should have some really good discussions in your group today! They are so much better than last week! Lastly, we will be silent reading in class today. You should have your reading book with you (no, you can not read ahead in Hoot). Sit back, relax, and enjoy the start of a brand new book for third quarter! I'm reading The Maze Runner, and I'm pretty excited about it. I read for like two hours last night at home. It's really starting to get good. I'm excited to be reading today!
